Unit 1 Review Grade-6

Revelation- God's act of revealing who he is and inviting us to respond with faith.

Faith- The assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Sacrifice- an act of unselfish giving. It is also a ritual offering made to God by a Priest on behalf of the people.

Altar- A center of worship during the Mass.

Body and Blood- The changing of bread and wine into the body and blood, takes place at the altar.

Piety- Putting God above all else.

Faith- this is an essential element in our relationship with God.

Confirmation- the Sacrament that strengthens our bod with the church.

Martyrs- Ordinary people who had strong faith, they gave up their life for the belief in Christ.

Covenant- A sacred agreement sometimes sealed with a ceremony.

Bible- The written word of God.

Catholic-Universal open to all.

Other Important facts

*At Mass we gather to celebrate the fact that Jesus sacrificed himself for us.

*If we try to live simply, honestly, and lovingly, we are covenant people.

*Prayer requires keeping our mind and heart focused on God.

*Joseph and his brother became known as the twelve tribes of Israel.

*Because we trust God, we pray to him as "Our Father"

*Initiation means welcoming.

*Two main sections in the bible are the Old and New Testament

*Four Gospel writes are Mathew, Mark, Luke, & John

Liturgical year- The church's yearly calendar of celebration and seasons.

Holy Thursday- Honors the night in which Jesus shared the last super with the Apostles.

Passover- The Jewish celebration of the Israelites' exit from Egypt.

Ten Commandments- Laws given to Moses for us to follow. Opportunities given for us to follow.

Great Commandment- You shall love God with all your soul, mind, heart, strength.

Prayer- Communicating with God. This helps us to know God's will.

Initiation- Means welcoming.
