The basic requirements for a good confession is to have the intent of returning to God like the "prodigal son' and to acknowledge our sins with the true sorrow before his representative, the Priest.

Examination of Conscience

Recall your sins. Calmly ask yourself what you have done wrong or could do better. Here are a few examples:

1. Did I seriously doubt my faith? 2. Did I show love for God and others? 3.Have I used bad language?

4. Do I pray? 5. Did I wish only good to others? 6. Have I been Jealous? 7.Did I lie? 8. Do I gossip?

9. Do I obey my parents or teachers? 10. Did I cheat? 11. Have I stolen anything?

12. Do I use God's name with respect?  13. Do I make fun of people? 14. Do I respect myself?

15. Do I forgive others? 16. Do I attend Sunday Mass? 17. Have I been Dishonest?

18. Am I respectful in sacred places?

Please practice with your child the Steps to Reconciliation

1. I ask the Holy Spirit to help me think of my sins.

2. When I enter the Reconciliation room or confessional, I greet Father, Make the SIgn of the Cross, Next I say Bless me father for I have sinned this is my first Confession.

3. I tell Father my sins

4. Father gives me a penance and then I pray the Prayer of Sorrow

5. Father gives me absolution. I make the sign of the cross. Then I say "Thank you, Father".

6. I go back to me pew and say my penance.

7. If I go to confession as a group, I need to remain quiet and talk to God while others are attending Confession.

Prayer of Sorrow

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all me heart.

In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,

I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with your help to do penance, to sin no more and

avoid whatever leads me to sin. Amen.
